Meet the Fit Minds Team
Nicole has brought together her experience as a lawyer, educator, coach and business woman to be one of the founders and creative minds behind Fit Minds Cognitive Health Products Inc. Nicole is focused on identifying product needs within the cognitive stimulation/therapy market and developing products and programs to meet those needs.
Nicole believes that while dementia changes relationships, it shouldn’t end them. She is passionate about creating products and programs that support caregivers in creating meaningful exchanges and building loving and supportive relationships with the individuals they care for.
Randy brings his professional experience in business development, strategic alliances and executive management as well as his personal experience as a family caregiver to Fit Minds Cognitive Health Products Inc. Randy is focused on identifying and developing partner relationships and the growth of the Fit Minds Foundation, a non-profit partner of Fit Minds Inc.
Throughout his career Randy has been passionate about human potential, the mind and peak performance. He brings to Fit Minds a passion for making a difference in the lives of individuals touched by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Doctor Vinson brings his research experience in cognitive psychology along with his personal experience as a family caregiver to Fit Minds Cognitive Health Products Inc. He earned his Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1995. At Carnegie-Mellon, Dr. Vinson’s research focused on the psychology of language and spatial cognition. He also gained familiarity with techniques for computer modelling of cognition, such as production system-based expert systems and connectionism.
From 1995 to 1996, Dr. Vinson worked at Bell-Northern Research (a division of Nortel) on new service concepts for broadband communications. Dr. Vinson joined the National Research Council, Canada in 1996. During this time, he engaged in a broad range of research and development projects, focusing on perception and spatial cognition, human-computer interaction, and research ethics. Most recently, Dr. Vinson performed applied research and development in medical informatics, particularly for disease surveillance. In this context, he was involved in developing and installing an award-winning syndromic surveillance system in Ottawa (Canada).
Dr. Vinson brings to Fit Minds a keen understanding of the hurdles facing individuals with cognitive impairment and a passion to make a positive impact on people’s personal lives.
Karen brings her experience in education and curriculum development along with her years of community support to Fit Minds Cognitive Health Products Inc. Karen earned her Bachelor Education from the University of Ottawa in 1988. She spent over 20 years in the Ottawa Catholic School Board as a teacher, department head and administrator. She most recently completed a term with the Alzheimer’s Society of Lanark County as their Education and Support Coordinator.
Karen has a wealth of experience in curriculum development, assessment and evaluation and train the trainer program implementation. She is passionate about education and giving back to her community. Her volunteer work with The Mills Community Support Centre introduced her to another population in need of support – seniors – and she has seen a real need to develop support and services for that part of our population.
Karen brings a keen understanding of the challenges facing seniors and caregivers, particularly in rural centres. She is committed to community building and improving the skill set of both professional and family caregivers.
Doctor Nussbaum is a licensed clinical neuropsychologist in the state of Pennsylvania. Having earned his Doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Arizona in 1991, Dr. Nussbaum completed his internship and Post-Doctoral fellowship at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is an adjunct Professor in Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Doctor Nussbaum has 25 years experience in the care of older persons suffering dementia and related disorders. An expert in neuroanatomy and human behavior, Dr. Nussbaum has published many peer reviewed articles, books, and chapters within the scientific community.
Dr. Nussbaum is an international leader in the area of brain health lifestyle ®. His books on brain health include his 2010 Save Your Brain (named top five in brain fitness by AARP) and 2009 Your Brain Health Lifestyle: Application to the School, Library, Corporate Setting, and Home. They are easy-to-read and informative guides to increasing the health of your brain. Doctor Nussbaum educates the general public on the basics of the human brain and how to keep the brain healthy over the entire lifespan. He has presented his views on brain health at the United Nations and National Press Club. His keynote presentations across the nation are both informative and fun, and he is often interviewed by the local and national media. He consults with many companies and organizations to help implement a brain health culture.
